Why in person

A room with nothing else in it.

Research finds online therapy works as well as in-person, so the choice is about what suits you rather than what is better. Some good reasons people choose the room:

  • It is a boundary. You leave your home, your desk, and your phone, and for 50 minutes nothing else is happening.

  • The privacy burden is mine, not yours. No headphones, no listening for footsteps on the landing.

  • Presence. Some things are easier to say and easier to hear, with another person actually in the room.

  • When you are struggling badly, BACP suggests face-to-face support is often preferable, and I agree.

If a closed room itself feels like the problem, walk and talk therapy amongst the beauty of Kew keeps the in-person contact without the four walls.

What to expect

Fifty minutes, at a regular time.

Sessions last 50 minutes and take place at a regular weekly slot. In the first session I ask what has brought you now, we agree the practical terms and I explain confidentiality and its limits plainly, then the time is yours.3 You do not need to prepare anything.
